Passwords and account recovery
Your password protects everything you and your clients work on inside Esqase. This page explains the three things you may need to do with it: get back into your account when you have forgotten your password, set a new password from a reset email, and change your password while you are already signed in.
Esqase enforces a strong password on every change. Whichever route you take, your new password must be:
- At least 12 characters long (and no more than 128).
- One that contains an uppercase letter, a lowercase letter, a number, and a special character (for example
!,?, or#).
If a password you enter does not meet these rules, Esqase highlights the field and tells you exactly what is missing, so you can fix it before continuing.
Note: These steps cover firm members who sign in to the Esqase dashboard. Clients who only receive booking links, intake forms, payment links, or signing links do not have a dashboard password. They unlock those links by email instead. See How clients book meetings and the related client-experience pages.
Before you begin
- To reset a forgotten password, all you need is access to the email inbox you sign in with. You do not need to be signed in.
- To change your password from settings, you must be signed in and you must know your current password.
- Reset links are time-limited. A reset email link is only valid for 60 minutes and can be used only once.
Forgot your password: request a reset link
If you cannot remember your password, you can ask Esqase to email you a secure link that lets you set a new one. You do not need to know your old password to do this.
- Go to the Esqase sign-in page.
- Below the password box, click Forgot your password?.
- On the Forgot your password? screen, type the email address you use to sign in to Esqase into the Email field.
- Click Send reset link. While the request is processing, the button shows Sending link....

After you submit, Esqase shows a Check your email confirmation. It tells you that if an account exists for the email you entered, you will receive a message with a link to reset your password, and that the link expires in 60 minutes.

Important: For your security, Esqase always shows the same Check your email message, whether or not an account exists for that address. This is deliberate. It prevents anyone from using the form to discover which email addresses have Esqase accounts. So if you do not receive an email, the most likely reason is that you typed a different address from the one on your account.
From the confirmation screen you can:
- Click try again if you need to resend the link or correct the email address.
- Click Back to sign in to return to the sign-in page.
If the email does not arrive
- Wait a minute or two. Email delivery is usually quick but can be delayed.
- Check your spam or junk folder.
- Confirm you entered the exact email address on your Esqase account. If your firm uses several addresses, try the one you normally sign in with.
- If you still see nothing, click try again from the confirmation screen, or start over from Forgot your password?.
Reset your password from the emailed link
The email you receive contains a secure link. Opening it takes you to a page where you choose a new password.
- Open the password reset email in your inbox and click the reset link inside it. This opens Esqase in your browser.
- On the Choose a new password screen, confirm the email address shown at the top is the account you meant to reset.
- In New password, type the password you want to use. It must meet the strength rules listed at the top of this page.
- In Confirm new password, type the same password again so Esqase can confirm there are no typos.
- Click Update password. While it saves, the button shows Updating password....

When the change succeeds, Esqase shows a Password updated confirmation telling you to sign in with your new password. Click Go to sign in to return to the sign-in page and log in with the password you just set.

Important: Resetting your password signs you out of Esqase everywhere. If you were signed in on another browser or device, you will need to sign in again there with your new password. This is a safety measure: if someone else had access to your old session, resetting your password ends it.
If the reset link does not work
If you open a reset link and see a Link expired or invalid message instead of the password form, the link can no longer be used. This happens when:
- More than 60 minutes have passed since the email was sent.
- The link has already been used once.
- The link was incomplete (for example, your email program cut it short, or only part of it was copied).

To continue, click Request a new link on that screen. This takes you back to Forgot your password?, where you can send yourself a fresh link and start again. You can also click Back to sign in to return to the login page.
Tip: Open the reset email and click the link from a device where you can finish the process right away. Because the link expires in 60 minutes and only works once, it is best not to forward it or save it for later.
Change your password from your account settings
If you are already signed in and simply want to update your password (for example, on a regular schedule or because you suspect it may have been seen), you can do it from your account settings. This route always asks for your current password first, so no one who briefly borrows an unlocked screen can change it.
- In the bottom of the sidebar, click your name and avatar to open the account menu, then choose Account.
- In the account settings, open the Password tab from the left-hand menu.
- Under the Password heading, fill in the form:
- Current password: your existing password. Esqase uses this to confirm it is really you.
- New password: the password you want to switch to. It must meet the strength rules listed at the top of this page, and it must be different from your current password.
- Confirm new password: the new password again, to catch typos.
- Click Update password. While it saves, the button shows Updating....
When the change succeeds, Esqase shows a Password updated message at the corner of the screen and clears the form. Your new password takes effect immediately.

Tip: Each password field has a small show/hide control so you can reveal what you have typed and check it before submitting.
Common questions
Do I get signed out when I change my password from settings? Changing your password while signed in does not interrupt your current session, so you can keep working straight away. (Resetting a forgotten password from an email link is different: that signs you out everywhere and you sign back in.)
Why does it say my new password must be different? For your security, Esqase will not let you "change" your password to the one you are already using. Choose a genuinely new password.
Why was my current password rejected? If the Current password you entered does not match the password on your account, Esqase will not make the change and shows a generic message. Re-enter your current password carefully. If you truly cannot remember it, sign out and use the Forgot your password? flow above instead.
The passwords do not match. The New password and Confirm new password fields must be identical. Esqase flags this so you can retype the confirmation.
